Bourbon, Brews & BBQ

The Bourbon, Brews & BBQ event is three-fold: we want to showcase local craft distilleries, breweries, and wineries, promote the appreciation of competition BBQ in a fun-filled environment, and to support our community by donating proceeds of the event to the Bancroft Fire Department & EMS so they can purchase badly-needed updated equipment.

Teams are to be comprised of non-professionals that are required to cook chicken and pork ribs to win the Grand Championship. The cooking source at a Stand Alone Backyard Contest shall be of wood, wood pellets or charcoal. KCBS Backyard Rules and regulations apply. In addition, all KCBS team members who participate in a Backyard Sanctioned Contest earn points towards the KCBS Backyard Team of the Year.

Definition for a KCBS Backyard Cook Team

  1. Any member of the team who has not entered in and competed in more than twelve (12) sanctioned “Master Series” BBQ competitions in the past and;
  2. Any person who has been a member of a team who has not been awarded a Grand Champion or Reserve Champion status in any KCBS Sanctioned “Master Series” competition and;
  3. Any member of the team who has competed in three (3) or less “Master Series BBQ competitions within the current competition year.

If any member of the team has entered in and competed in more than twelve (12) sanctioned “Master Series” BBQ competitions in the past, they are ineligible to participate in the Backyard competition. Any person who was a member of a team who has competed in three (3) or less “Master Series” BBQ competitions within one (1) competition year may be considered a backyard cook and may declare or revert to such status. This includes the Chief Cook and/or Assistant Cooks. The only exclusion to this rule would be those judges cooking with a team to qualify for master judge status. Individuals who feel they have extenuating circumstances may appeal to the KCBS Sanctioning committed or their designee for reconsideration as a backyard cook.

Those requests must be made in writing within 90 days of the competition in question. The purpose is to ensure a level playing field in the cooking competition. The Cook Team cannot have been compensated as a Pro BBQ Restaurant or Caterer.

A minimum of 6 racks of ribs will be required per team. Our sponsor Hormel Foods will provide all of these for you. If you are able and willing to cook more, we would appreciate your help. You need to provide your own chicken for competition (unless you want to use chicken legs). Our sponsor The Best Dressed Chicken will be sponsoring 24 chicken legs per team. Chicken legs and extra ribs will be used for public sampling.

While the BBQ event is taking place, local craft distilleries, breweries, and wineries will be participating in a tasting event from 12pm-4pm. Tickets will be available at a later date.

Each BBQ team will be given a swag bag and 2 general admission tickets, a value of $60, to the tasting event from 1pm-4pm; participate must be 21+ to attend tasting.
