Bring water, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt to a boil in a 2 quart saucepan over moderately high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, whisking occasionally for 10 minutes. Remove from heat; pour a shot of Private First Class into 4 glasses and top with mixture. Serve hot. (Optional: add a dash of vanilla stirred in with the sauce pan mixture or a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.)
